Allergy Shots for Significant Relief of Moderate to Severe Allergies
Immunotherapy has been in use to help treat allergies and certain types of asthma since 1911. Treatments are personalized to most effectively provide desensitization to allergens by changing the manner in which the immune system reacts when presented with the allergy-inducing agent. Unlike medications, which treat only the superficial symptoms of allergic reactions, allergy shots actually teach the immune system to gradually tolerate specific allergens. To identify which allergen is triggering a reaction, your physician will conduct skin testing to develop a unique treatment to reduce or eliminate the degree of your immune system’s response to allergen exposures over time. An extract of the allergen in question is then injected into the skin on your arm on a regular basis. Treatment results in significant relief of moderate to severe allergies for many patients.
Protect Yourself With Vaccines, Flu, and Booster Shots
At Valley Health Care, we believe that the best defense against a wide range of viral pathogens involves proactive preventive vaccination. We offer the full range of standard vaccinations recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for Infants and Children, Preteens and Teens, and Adults. Most adults can benefit from booster shots, as immunization protection gradually decreases over time for many vaccines. If you are over the age of 60 and have been exposed to the Varicella (Chicken Pox) virus (over 99% of people over the age of 40 have, whether you experienced symptoms or not), we strongly advise you to obtain a shingles vaccination. A tetanus booster is recommended for adults every ten years to maintain immunity. Many additional vaccinations are available for our patients with special immunization requirements, including pneumonia, herpes zoster, and PCV13. Please note that if you are planning to travel outside of the United States, you should plan to discuss any recommended vaccinations required with your doctor at least three months before your trip. Protect yourself now.
